Honored to present our study:
“Identifying Leading Mental Health Issues among Black/African Americans in Orange County, California: Key Issues, Risk Factors, and Strategies for Change.”

Background: Black/African Americans (BAAs) continue to face poorer mental health outcomes linked to structural inequities, systemic bias, and historical trauma. Limited research has examined these challenges in Orange County, CA.
Methods: We surveyed 118 BAA residents using self-administered questionnaires to identify leading mental health issues, risk factors, and community-driven solutions.

Findings:
•Depression, stress, and anxiety were the most prevalent disorders.
•Mental health issues were higher among women and young adults.
•Family history and discrimination were key risk factors.
•Health literacy, policy change, and stigma reduction emerged as major strategies for improvement.
Conclusion: Improving BAA mental health requires intentional integration, access, and empowerment – building culturally responsive programs that address inequity and promote sustainable well-being.
