On August 1, 2026, the Center for Family Health Initiative (CFHI) proudly joined the Udoka Women’s Association of Southern California, a renowned Igbo cultural organization, in celebrating its 30th Anniversary and 21 Years of Academic Empowerment. The prestigious event, attended by distinguished community leaders and guests, was held at the Hawthorne Memorial Civic Center in Los Angeles.
With more than 500 people in attendance, the celebration was a remarkable showcase of culture, service, and community impact. Guests were treated to vibrant traditional cultural dances and inspiring presentations highlighting the Association’s extraordinary accomplishments over the past three decades.
Since its inception, the Udoka Women’s Association has invested more than $150,000 in educational support for students in both the United States and Nigeria. The organization has awarded scholarships to more than 500 students, refurbished schools, organized educational fairs, conducted food and clothing drives, celebrated and preserved Igbo culture, provided meals for people experiencing homelessness, and partnered with public health agencies to deliver health screenings and vaccination programs to underserved communities.
The anniversary celebration commemorated three decades of selfless service and meaningful community impact while looking ahead to an even brighter future. Recognizing that much work remains, the Association raised funds to expand its scholarship program, strengthen community service initiatives, increase access to health screening services, provide mobile mammography services, and broaden other health and social support programs that benefit vulnerable populations.
In her remarks, the President of the Udoka Women’s Association called on members, friends, and supporters to renew their commitment to community service and become active partners in shaping the organization’s next chapter. The appeal was met with generous donations and renewed enthusiasm for the Association’s mission.
CFHI was well represented at the celebration. Dr. Angela Ofoegbu, Chairperson of the CFHI Board, served as Chair of the Program Planning Committee, while Dr. Esther Uche Okafor, CFHI Vice Chair, continues to play an active role as a dedicated member of the Association. Other CFHI leaders and members in attendance included Dr. Princess Osita-Oleribe (President/CEO), Dr. Obinna Oleribe (Chief Operating Officer), Pastor Frank Uwakwe, and Mrs. Christie Uwakwe.
