August 29, 2026, will remain a day to be long remembered!
It was a beautiful day of culture, community, friendship, family, laughter, and gratitude to God as Igbos in Southern California came together as brothers and sisters to celebrate our rich heritage, the gift of life, and God’s faithfulness.
For the Center for Family Health Initiative (CFHI), being part of this historic gathering was both a privilege and an opportunity to serve. With our Board Chair serving on the organizing committee, CFHI simply had to be there. We secured a booth, came prepared, and set out to make a difference—one family and one person at a time.
Throughout the day, our team welcomed and engaged numerous visitors at the CFHI booth. We distributed free lunch bags, water bottles, health education flyers, candies, and Narcan packs, while sharing practical information about healthy living, family well-being, and community health.
We also introduced attendees to the work of CFHI and our Four A’s framework: Assessment, Awareness, Advocacy, and Action—four interconnected approaches through which we seek to strengthen individuals, families, family health, and ultimately, society.
Launching Two New Campaigns
The cultural celebration also provided the perfect platform to launch two important CFHI campaigns:
💚 Build Healthy Families
💚 Choose Health Every Day
Our campaign materials introduced the CFHI 5Cs Framework for Healthy Families, emphasizing the importance of intentional actions and healthy relationships in building stronger families and healthier communities.
But Igbo Cultural Day was not all about education and advocacy. We came to celebrate—and we celebrated!
There was music, dancing, laughter, games, and plenty of joyful interaction. Children and adults alike participated in exciting games, including lauding Jagga, creating an atmosphere of fun and friendly competition. To encourage participation and recognize outstanding performances, CFHI also awarded cash prizes to individuals who distinguished themselves in the various games.
It was beautiful to see generations come together—children playing, adults cheering, families reconnecting, friends laughing, and the community celebrating its heritage.
And, of course, food and fellowship were not forgotten!
A special and heartfelt thank-you goes to Pastor Frank Uwakwe, who supported the entire CFHI outing from setup to teardown. His commitment, energy, and willingness to serve made a tremendous difference.
We also deeply appreciate Princess Osita-Oleribe for her excellent leadership and coordination throughout the day.
And to our dear friends, the Okechukwu family, thank you for coming with food and drinks to nourish the hardworking team. Your kindness and generosity reminded us once again that community is about looking out for one another.
At the end of the day, we did more than attend a cultural celebration.
We connected.
We danced.
We shared.
We played.
We laughed.
We educated.
We advocated.
We served.
Most importantly, we reminded our community that healthy individuals build healthy families, healthy families build healthy communities, and healthy communities contribute to a healthier society.
We also shared important messages about the value of peace and joy in our homes, intentional family relationships, healthy lifestyles, and better financial management—because family health encompasses much more than physical health.
CFHI is grateful to the Igbo Community Association for organizing such a wonderful celebration and bringing our community together in such a meaningful way. Your work in preserving our culture, strengthening relationships, and creating opportunities for community connection is deeply appreciated.
As we close this memorable chapter, we look forward with excitement to another opportunity to gather, serve, celebrate, and make a difference.
Until the next one—may our families remain healthy, our homes remain peaceful, our communities remain united, and our heritage continue to thrive.
See you all in 2027 for another unforgettable celebration!
